There are more ways to help refugee children than most people realize, and the simplest ones make a real difference. Here is how to help, starting with the fastest.
What do refugee children need most?
Safety first, then the ordinary things childhood is made of: play, school, healthy food and someone who listens. Refugee children have often lost all of these at once. Programs that bring them back together help children heal and settle faster.
What is the fastest way to help?
A donation. It goes straight to toys, sport, learning, healthy food and emotional support, wherever the need is greatest. Every gift to Little Smiles Foundation is tax deductible.
Can I donate toys?
Yes. New, unwrapped toys are always welcome, and a gift of money for toys often goes further because we buy in bulk. You can also host a toy drive at your school or office. Not sure what to give? See what toys to donate by age.
Can I volunteer with refugee children in Los Angeles?
Yes. Volunteers lead play, tutor, help at events and share professional skills, from about two hours a month. Volunteers of every age are welcome, and anyone under 16 volunteers with a parent.
How can my company help?
Through matching gifts, team volunteer days, sponsored programs and in kind donations. Email hello@littlesmiles.foundation and we will build a partnership around your team.
How else can I help from home?
Share our work. Follow us, share a post, or tell a teacher about the toy drive. Awareness is how small organizations grow.
